It is a great honor and a truly humbling experience being selected as Teacher of the Year here at Coral Reef Elementary (CRE). I feel blessed to be working in this school, with such a great third-grade team of teachers. Even though I have been teaching for 9 years, this is my 3rd year at CRE. Most of my teaching career I have taught 3rd grade. For two of those years, I taught 4th grade. My experience throughout these years has been mostly working with gifted students; however, I have taught all levels – General Education, Inclusion, and EFL. Since I started working at CRE, I have run the Math Club and taken that group of third-grade students to the Math Bowl Competition. The Math Club has won 1st place in different competitions each year. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to run this club and work at such a wonderful school.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. Being a teacher is my dream job, and it brings me great joy to be able to share it with all my students throughout the years. My philosophy and beliefs are that teachers often have to play many roles, because good teaching is not only teaching the core subjects, but teaching the child as a whole. This means teaching them social and emotional skills, as well as academics. I believe that if we, as teachers, raise our expectations from our students, then they will rise to meet these expectations. The key to teaching is being consistent in these practices. Since I expect the best from my students, then I try to give my best every day.

Your Teacher of the Year,
Mrs. Luces
