What an honor to have been voted by my colleagues as Coral Reef’s Rookie Teacher of the Year! I have been at Coral Reef Elementary since May of 2016. I was fortunate enough to be hired as a 5th grade Science and Mathematics teacher in an EFL class. I was welcomed by a friendly group of students, parents, and staff. It was a remarkable first experience for me and was an undertaking that I, as a beginner teacher, was privileged enough to experience. Following that, for the school year of 2016-2017 I had the pleasure of teaching fourth graders in a self-contained setting. That year was one of the most rewarding years I have taught thus far, as it helped mold me into the teacher I have become today! It has been a great journey to teach a variety of levels including Inclusion, EFL, and General Education at such an early stage in my teaching career.

Moreover, as an educator for young children, my teaching philosophy strongly affirms that all students, no matter what race they are, what cultural background they come from, or what socioeconomic status they fall under should only experience activities that consist of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP). To integrate this learning style into my classroom, students are involved through hands-on learning activities, student-led directed activities, and above all, experience differentiated instruction. As the 2019 Rookie Teacher of the Year at Coral Reef Elementary School, I must say I owe it all to this prodigious school I have had the pleasure in working at.

Your Rookie Teacher of the Year,
Ms. Gonzalez
